  • Brahms, Requiem
  • Dvorak, New World Symphony

The ever popular Requiem by Brahms is a large scale choral work completed in 1868. It is a setting of uplifting texts selected from the Lutheran Bible, emphasising comfort for the living, beginning with the chorus “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted” and later the familiar “How lovely are thy dwellings”

More correctly Symphony No. 9, From the New World is another much-loved work, dramatic and lyrical. It was composed whilst the Czech composer was living in America.
